Tuffy’s Pet Foods has been a staple in the town of Perham for 50 years.

And with the opening of a new $70 million dollar facility, Tuffy’s is continuing to grow.

KVRR’s Sarah Brechbill tells us more.

The town of Perham is home to 3,000 people.

And it’s also home to a global name in the pet foods industry… thanks to its brand new $70 million dollar facility.

“Basically we produce 80 percent more than what our old shooters were able to produce so that’s going to be huge for us,” says employee Sydney Otto.

The Nelson family owns both Tuffy’s and KLN family brands.

Together they currently employ more than 1,000 people.

“It’s a huge impact for the community. Not many small towns anywhere in the United States are thriving like our little town is here and it’s because we have a lot of good things and industry is one of them,” says Dan Schmitz, National Sales Manager.

After hair nets are fastened and hands are washed, anyone interested can take a tour of the 130 thousand square foot facility.

“The facility not only has a more efficient product but a safer and cleaner product as well.”

As to not leave any leftover residue, the new delivery system blows kibble through its pipes and is then immediately packaged.

And while the shiny new toys are fun, the Nelson family drew an even bigger crowd.

“I think it’s a great day for the Nelson family to see what they started many years ago and to see it all come together on a day like today is pretty amazing,” says Nathan Rooney, Assistant Production Manager at Tuffy’s.

Reminding the small town of Perham, it’s a doggone lucky one.
