Blood Donors Needed in National Blood Donation Week
United Blood Services of Fargo says donation amounts have dropped, and is urging healthy people to help out.
Governor Dalrymple now recognizes this week as National Blood Donation week, from September 4th to the 10th.
This is part of an effort to get all 50 U.S. governors to declare September 10th as Blood Donation Day, in recognition of 9/11.
Donor recruiters say there is a need for blood in the area, mainly o-positive and O-negative blood types.
“People that have come in after they’ve done it and were scared of it say, ‘it wasn’t as big of a deal as I thought it would be, it wasn’t painful,’ and that one donation will definitely save up to three lives each time,” district donor recruitment director Jennifer Bredahl says.
Recruiters say only five percent of eligible blood donors actually donate blood.
