DAPL: Judge Rejects Tribe Request; Army Corps Asking to Halt Construction
A federal judge may have rejected the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s request to stop the building of the Dakota Access pipeline, but now the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is requesting the pipeline company to voluntarily halt construction.
Soon after the judge handed down his rejection, the Corps released a statement saying they will not authorize any construction of the pipeline within 20 miles east and west of Lake Oahe.
The Corps says they want to reconsider their decision having the pipeline so close to a water resource.
The Standing Rock tribe says the pipeline threatens their culture and will be a danger to drinking water.
They say they are appealing the judge’s decision.
