Election ’16: Minnesota Secretary of State Visits MSUM
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon made a stop in Moorhead on his annual trip around the state.
This year he’s focusing on increasing voter turnout.
His first stop was at MSUM.
Simon met with the student government and student leaders to hear the thoughts of the students on what challenges prevent other young people from voting.
Simon also told them why young voters are so important.
“We have lagged behind, nationally and in Minnesota when it comes to the rate at which young people vote. I think there’s another reason. There is so much at stake for young people as well. You know as some like to say in front of young audiences, you may not be into politics but politics is in to you,” Simon says.
Simon also met with city officials and business leaders throughout the day to discuss ways to boost voter turnout for this year’s election.
