Otter Tail County Tests Environmentally Friendly Sealant
Otter Tail County tests a road sealant that’s environmentally friendly.
The soy–based road preservation aims to lower maintenance costs and make the roads last longer.
It helps make the roads safer by increasing skid resistance and it restores the flexibility of the roadway.
The technology replaces toxic petroleum alternatives.
“It’s a big concern in Minnesota to try to get as much life as we can out of a highway because it costs a lot of money to build,” said Project Development Director Harold Stanislawski. “This technology is being tested on behalf of Otter Tail County to look at this technology as a potential tool in their tool box for preserving roads.”
The bio–based sealant uses 100 bushels of soybeans for every mile it’s applied on the road.
