The Weather May be Cold, But It Doesn’t Mean You Should Catch It!
Doctors with Essentia Health say limiting your close contact with those who are sick can be a game changer
FARGO, ND — You may not be able to escape the cold weather this winter, but with a few simple steps, you can stay away from the cold and flu.
Doctors with Essentia Health say limiting your close contact with those who are sick can be a game changer.
They say the cold weather itself isn’t getting you sick, it’s the increase of staying indoors and being in contact with people around you.
Avoid touching your eyes and nose, but if you do wash your hands immediately.
They advise getting the flu shot as soon as possible.
“We are seeing some cases of influenza but we can’t predict when the big hit will happen but a lot of times we will see it in January and February after you’ve been around family and so anytime now is the perfect time to get it,” said Jamie Zink, a Physician Assistant with Essentia Health.
The North Dakota Department of Health has raised the level of flu activity in the state to widespread.
Just last week, 234 cases were reported bringing the total to more than 700 since August.
