The billowing black smoke that you might have spotted in the sky earlier Monday night in south Fargo was the result of a vehicle on fire.
Here's a picture of the van that started on fire about 6:30 pm.
It was on the corner of 22nd Street and 13th Avenue south in Fargo, in the parking lot of the Kum–n–Go.
Police say they received multiple calls from people who spotted the smoke.
By the time fire crews arrived the passenger van was engulfed in flames.
Captain Eric Eisenlohr with the Fargo Fire Department says, "We applied a little foam. Being it's over the fuel tank for the gas station we were worried the fuel tank could let loose on the vehicle and instead of standing next to the vehicle, would be standing in a big puddle of fuel. It's our standard procedure to spray the ground down with foam and push the fuel away from us."
The van is a total loss.
Authorities say it's very hard to determine the exact cause of vehicle fires.
