Bison Men's Track & Field Sign Seven

North Dakota State head men’s track & field and cross country coach Don Larson announced Wednesday, Feb. 5, that seven student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education at NDSU and compete for the Bison.

Nigel Hageness, a sprinter from Rugby, N.D.; Landon Jochim, a sprinter from Bismarck, N.D.; Matt Moberg, a jumper from West Fargo, N.D.; Payton Otterdahl, a thrower from Rosemount, Minn.; Camron Roehl, a distance runner from Grand Forks, N.D.; Branden Scheel, a distance runner from Fargo, N.D.; and Brennan Witt, a mid-distance runner from Custer, S.D., are the first seven athletes to sign with the Bison this year. All will join the NDSU men’s track & field team in the fall of 2014.

Hageness (Rugby HS) won North Dakota Class B state titles in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay as a sophomore in 2012, helping Rugby HS to a second-place team finish. He was the runner-up in the 100m as a junior in 2013.

Jochim (Bismarck Century HS) was the North Dakota Class A runner-up in the 400m as a junior in 2013. He is a two-time state champion in the 4x400m relay for Bismarck Century HS.

Moberg (Park Christian HS) was the Minnesota Class A state runner-up in the triple jump as a junior in 2013, as well as placing eighth in the long jump in each of the past two seasons. He also competed in football and plays basketball for Park Christian.

Otterdahl (Rosemount HS) placed second in the shot put and third in the discus at the Minnesota Class AA state championships as a junior in 2013, as well as competing in football and wrestling in his high school career.

Roehl (Grand Forks Central HS) qualified for the North Dakota Class A state track meet in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m and 4x800m relay as a junior in 2013. As a sophomore, he was also a state qualifier in the 1600m, 3200m and a pair of relays. He placed fourth at the state cross country meet as a senior in 2013 while playing soccer in the same season.

Scheel (Fargo Davies HS) is an all-state performer in cross country and track. He is a two-time Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) champion in cross country and placed third at the 2013 state cross country meet as a senior. Scheel has qualified for the North Dakota state track meet in the 1600m and 3200m in each of the last two years, placing fourth in the 3200m as a sophomore in 2012.

Witt (Custer HS) has won three straight South Dakota Class A state titles in the 800m. He captured state championships in the 800m and 1600m and anchored his school to a title in the 1600m medley relay as a junior in 2013. His performances helped Custer HS cruise to the Class A team championship.

The North Dakota State men’s track & field team has won four of the last six Summit League indoor titles and five of the last six league outdoor titles, including four straight.
