It's a rare medical condition in newborns, but it can happen, despite an unremarkable pregnancy.

It's called Anophthalmia and it's when a newborn is born with only one or no eyes.

The condition is caused by missing ocular tissue and it is many times difficult for doctors to spot it in prenatal scans.

Experts say the condition may be caused by X-rays, chemicals or viruses, but many times, the cause can't be determined.

At this time, there is no treatment for anophthalmia but as children grow, they can be fitted for prosthetic eyes to promote socket growth, but the prosthetic will not restore vision.
