FARGO, N.D. -

The Business Improvement District says their ambassadors have helped make downtown Fargo safer.

Ambassadors are found downtown wearing royal blue and available to assist the public.

Whether it's about where to eat or if you notice a maintenance issue they are there to help.

Since the program has started in 2013 the city has noticed a decline in panhandling.

"What we've noticed is as thy see our uniform as ambassadors on the streets, they know that we do work hand and hand with law enforcement. They start to break off as we start walking toward them or what not," says Chris Schlepp, Business Improvement District Operations Manager.

Ambassadors focused on safety are on duty Thursday through Saturdays.

The Business Improvement District is funded by downtown property owners.
