MOORHEAD, Minn. -

Police responded to a call of a shot being fired in the 1900 block of 18th Avenue South in Moorhead early this morning.

According to police, Nur Abdiwarfa repeatedly turned the doorknob of unit where Ahmed Jawad Algizawi lived.

He opened the front door and confronted the man who then ran.

Algizawi fired a warning shot that entered an unoccupied neighboring unit.

Police say that things could have ended much differently.

"This seriously elevated the potential for danger here for anyone involved.  And then later, he became the potential person that would have been harmed because he could have confronted law enforcement accidentally," says Moorhead Police Lt. Tory Jacobson.

Abdiwarfa was taken to detox.

Algizawi was not arrested and no charges have been filed.
