FARGO, N.D. -

Thirty-five new parking spots open in downtown Fargo as work on the new city hall begins.

Contractors started excavating 3rd Street North on the east side of the current City Hall.

They expect this project to take up to two years.

City engineers say the old civic lot adjacent to City Hall is now closed, but anyone needing to park there have another option.

"People that come down to City Hall and come to the Library, use 4th Street. Park on 4th Street, park in the Library lot, park in the new paved lot we got right out front of the Civic," Fargo transportation engineer Jeremy Gordon.
