Salem Sue has been vandalized.

One of North Dakota's most visible landmarks has been the target of graffiti vandals.

They wrote in bold markers on Sue's belly that ``they were there.''

The president of the New Salem Lion's Club says it's not the first time that members have been called upon to scrub the cow.

Salem Sue is billed as the world's largest Holstein cow.

It has stood above the town of New Salem since 1974 and can be seen from I-94.

It draws about 3,000 people a month.
