FARGO, N.D. -

The Downtown Neighborhood Association is looking at ways to offer outreach to homeless people, as an effort to make the area safer.

At a previous meeting, the group identified that homeless people in the area should be treated as community members.

The association is inviting professionals who work at nonprofits to help them understand the problems homeless people face.

The group discusses possible solutions like which shelter people can donate items.

"We as a neighborhood association want to be able to support what's already happening that's successful. So the intent here if for the general citizen group to get behind what's being done and provide some support," says Arlette Preston, Chair of the Downtown Neighborhood Association.

The Downtown Neighborhood Association meets once a month.
