The St. Cloud mall stabbing has retailers across the country and right here in the Valley on their toes.
KVRR checked in with the Moorhead Center Mall to see what they're doing to ensure safety.
Moorhead Center Mall management says they do not hire security guards.
Instead, there is a group within the merchants that meets about once a month to discuss different topics including safety in different types of emergency situations.
Those in the group follow standards and procedures created with the mall and makes sure each business is aware of them.
Standards include evacuation plans and who to call.
The calling tree within the retailers is taken very seriously since some people may be the only person working in the store.
"We merchants all keep and eye out for one another, we have a wonderful staff in the mall. "Let's say one of my employees didn't want to walk out alone at night. We have someone. The Moorhead Police Department is great. They have a presence in the area," said Mary Fabre, Owner of Merle Norman.
Mary says she hasn't felt threatened in the thirty years she's owned the store and is thankful the area is typically peaceful.
