For the first time in program history, the North Dakota State University women's soccer team was voted Summit League preseason favorites in a poll of the league's nine head coaches unveiled on Thursday, Aug. 11. The Bison are coming off their first regular-season title since 2009, finishing with an unbeaten league record of 7-0-1.
NDSU received seven of the possible nine first-place votes and tallied 63 total points in the poll, while Summit League tournament champion South Dakota State was picked second, receiving the remaining two first-place votes and compiling 56 points.
Oral Roberts was tabbed third with 49 points, Denver was fourth with 45 points, and South Dakota was fifth with 45 points, rounding out the top-five.
IUPUI was picked sixth, followed by Omaha, Fort Wayne and Western Illinois to round out the poll.
The Bison return a league-best three first team All-Summit League selections in defender , and midfielders and . Miller, the league's Offensive Player of the Year in 2015, is the league's active career leader with 37 goals and led the league last season with an NDSU single-season record 18 goals.
NDSU also returns three All-Freshmen Team selections, including the 2015 Freshman of the Year, .
The 2016 regular season kicks off on Aug. 19, with Summit League action beginning Sept. 30. North Dakota State will host The Summit League Women's Soccer Championship at Dacotah Field in Fargo Nov. 3-5. The top four regular-season finishers will qualify for the tournament.
