Former ND Governor Says He “Probably” Considered LGBT Community For Anti-Discrimination Bill

A former North Dakota Republican Governor says he “probably” considered gays and lesbians when he crafted a non-discrimination policy for state employees 34 years ago.

Allen Olson says the intent of his 1981 executive order was to treat “human beings as human beings.”

Democrats are calling on current Republican Governor Jack Dalrymple to issue an executive order to ban sexual orientation discrimination in state agencies.

Dalrymple’s staff says such an order already exists because the governor last year adopted Olson’s executive order.
