The state Senate is asking for $135 thousand over the next two years to maintain the grounds and to pay part time staff at Welks’ home in Strasburg.

But the House voted against the funding, saying the money should come from the State Historical Society.

Two years ago, the Legislature gave $100 thousand to purchase the Strasburg home of the famous band leader.
