Could Take One Year to Determine Cause of Derailment
The NTSB says it could take more than a year to determine the cause of an oil train derailment and fire near Heimdal, North Dakota.
About 20 residents had to leave their homes after six tanker cars derailed on May 6th.
Four of the tankers ruptured and caught fire.
An NTSB spokesman says it’s still early in the investigation and it could take 12 to 14 months before a final report is issued.
The chair of North Dakota’s Public Service Commission says the derailment underscores the need for a state-run rail safety program.
