Kirkpatrick Appeals to Federal Court

The Oklahoma man convicted of hiring his handyman to kill a Fargo dentist, is now taking his case to federal court after being denied by the North Dakota Supreme Court.

Gene Kirkpatrick says that his lawyers did a poor job of representing him.

He says his statements to police should never have been heard in court.

He is asking for a new trial or a sentence that could make him eligible for parole immediately.

Kirkpatrick is serving a life term in the South Dakota State Penitentiary.
