Minnesota Teachers’ Union Wants to Change Standardized Testing

The Minnesota Teachers’ Union says there are better ways to invest in the assessment of their students than using standardized testing.

The report released by Education Minnesota says that high stakes testing should be limited to only certain grades.

Teachers say they want what they believe is a well-rounded assessment like a writing piece.

But testing advocates say the exams help identify achievement gaps between the races of their students.

They also say the exams help hold teachers accountable for how well their students learn.
