Investigators Say Crew Didn’t Follow Safety Procedures in Fatal Minnesota BNSF Accident

Federal officials say an investigation of a fatal accident involving a BNSF Railway worker in Minneapolis shows many members of the work crew were not following safety measures when the accident happened.

The BNSF foreman died in May of 2015 after he was pinned under a track panel other workers were unloading from a flat car.

The car and panels were clipped by an oncoming train.

Investigators say the inexperienced fork-lift operator continued to unload the panels, even though they were told another train was coming.

They say the work crew did not review the job and the risks it carried ahead of time.
