One Dead, One Rescued in Building Collapse in Sioux Falls
It was not the outcome rescue workers wanted.
One person is dead and another is hurt after a building collapses in downtown Sioux Falls.
Fire rescue officials say a search dog found the body of a construction worker in a void surrounded by debris.
The man had been buried in the rubble of the building since early Friday morning.
Emily Fodness, 22, was in an apartment on the second floor of the building when it collapsed.
Authorities rescued her and her dog from the debris just after 1:00pm.
Her family says she is doing well but suffered injuries to her leg.
Fire officials say Fodness continued to talk on her phone with her mother while rescue workers looked for her.
They say they don’t believe anyone else is trapped.
Authorities say the building was vacant and expected to open in the spring.
The cause of the collapse has not been released.
