Inaugural Indigenous Film Festival

FARGO — It’s a culture with a rich tradition of oral storytelling.

And they’re looking for local filmmakers to bring their stories to the silver screen, here in the metro.

Organizers are putting out a call for submissions for the very first Indigenous Film Festival in Fargo.

It’s open to Native American and Indigenous directors, co-directors, or producers.

You can submit films in the narrative, documentary, short, or experimental categories.

Organizers developed the idea after the previous Native American Film Festival in the city ended two years ago.

There’s been a recent resurgence of interest in Native voices in TV and film, and the medium is more accessible than ever.

They’ll accept submissions until March 30th for the festival, which is set for mid-April.

Organizer Joe Williams joined the Morning Show to talk about why a few recent Native-led projects have seeded a big surge in interest in projects from Indigenous filmmakers across the country.
