Bird Ban at Red River Valley Fair 2015

Sorry, this video is no longer available

A popular attraction at the Red River Valley Fair in West Fargo will be missing this year.

The Poultry exhibits are canceled due to concerns over the spread of bird flu to the area.

KVRR’s Brittany Ford has the story.

Crows.

A sound that will be missed this year at the annual Red River Valley Fair.

The fair will not have birds on display or in competitions due to regulations by the North Dakota State Board of Animal Health.

Farmers say there will be a void in what usually is a time of peak excitement to show off their prized possessions.

“So it’s going to be a letdown but I think everybody that’s involved in our 4-H club myself. We’re not going to change our plans it’s just going to put an empty hole going to the fair.”

The Poultry exhibit is aimed to provide a fun and visual way in educating the farm to fork process of food production. From egg, to chick, to the food on your plate.

“The live presence of the eggs and chicks may not be there, but the fair is turning the disappointment into an opportunity for education”

“Basically educate the public on what this flu is. Why we’re not having the animals here, and how is that going to affect our food production, our farmers, and the producers in the industry.”

The fair did say that fair goers will still be able to enjoy chicken and turkey at the food stands.

The food is still safe. Brittany Ford KVRR News.

Last year, the new born piglet exhibit at the fair was canceled due to the threat of swine flu.
