Dealing With Blowing Snow

It didn’t take long for 2015 to bring us two big storms in one week. Mother Nature is back to her old self.

We ventured out into the elements to see who else was willing to brave the cold and blowing snow. We met Delbert Jennings and little wind and cold weather isn’t going to slow him down while he shovels his driveway. In fact, he welcomes it.

“I don’t mind the winter weather. I enjoy it. The change of seasons great. I’ve drove semis where you couldn’t see the end of the hood and still make my deliveries and everything else. I did that for years.” He said.

But even this Air Force veteran needs a break inside his West Fargo home, before he goes back outside to tackle the elements in his winter gear with his heavy gloves, a lot of socks and heavy boots.

With blizzard conditions throughout much of the valley travelers need to be extra cautious.

The Minnesota State Patrol wants drivers to take extra steps to be safe with visibility on the roads at a minimum.

Lieutenant Charles Backes says, “All of a sudden you’ll come into any area where you can see and then you drive into another area where you cannot. So it’s important to reduce that speed, leave distance in between and turn those headlights on so people can see you.”

Bundle up and be safe, because winter warriors like Delbert know the worst is yet to come who says, “Yeah this ain’t bad. This still ain’t bad.”

The DOT has issued a no travel advisory for Northeast North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota.
