Chemical Spill In Downtown Fargo Building
Eight People, Family of Three Evacuated
Fargo fire officials respond to a chemical spill that leads to the evacuation of a downtown building.
Firefighters were called to the spill at 7:30 last night. The building housed two businesses and an apartment. A hazmat team traced the chemical to a safe and determined it was either tear gas or chloropicrin.
Authorities say it was apparently put there in case someone broke into the safe. Crews evacuated eight people from the businesses and a family of three from the apartment.
One person complaining of eye irritation was treated at the scene. The building will remain closed until a cleanup company removes the chemical.
