Slippery Conditions In The Valley

Fargo police responded to more than 40 accidents this morning due to the icy roads.

Eric Vosika spends most Saturdays at Paradox in downtown Fargo playing and sorting through “Yu–Gi–Oh!” cards.
This Saturday was no exception besides his trip to the comic book and card store.

“Definitely icy, a couple points I had to gun it just to get moving forward,” said Vosika of Moorhead.

Icy roads plagued the valley throughout the early morning into the afternoon.
In western and central Minnesota, there were at least 31 crashes with six jackknifed semis.

“It doesn’t take much speed to lose control. I know sometimes with conditions like this even five miles an hour is too much to stop,” said Fargo Fire Department Battalion Chief Dane Carley.

Vosika is a little worried about the roads, but is more concerned about other drivers.

“A little concerned, I mean I’ve lived here all my life so I’m used to this but for those not used to this yeah,” said Vosika.

It’s pretty icy, but roads aren’t the only issue people have to deal with. Sidewalks and parking lots have been causing several injuries.

Dan McCollum’s morning didn’t start off too well.

“I left the house to take some garbage out I was going to do some driving here and immediately fell, slipped and fell on the sidewalk,” said McCollum of Fargo.

The slip isn’t stopping McCollum, unless it persists through tomorrow.

“Yeah I have things I need to do tomorrow so definitely worried about it I may end up having a very nice relaxing weekend staying indoors,” said McCollum.

“All it takes is one slick patch and you’re going straight into the ditch or into somebody else,” said Vosika.

The roads were bad but they didn’t stop Vosika from enjoying his “Yu–Gi–Oh!” hobby.

Road conditions caused the MatBus to temporarily close Saturday morning and service completely stopped in Moorhead.
