Lawmakers Push for Ignition Interlock Devices

North Dakota lawmakers are considering a bill to amend the state’s 24/7 sobriety program.

Republican Rep. Andrew Maragos, of Minot, wants to include ignition interlock devices.

It would allow someone convicted of drunk driving to use the devices instead of taking twice-daily alcohol tests, or having to wear an ankle bracelet.

Transportation Department Deputy Director Mark Nelson says the state’s sobriety program is working well without the devices.
