Local Nonprofits Receiving Money For Homeless

Several local nonprofits are getting a big boost from the government to help battle homelessness.

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development is giving nearly $1.2 million to four Fargo organizations including the Fargo Housing and Redevelopment Authority, the YWCA Cass Clay, Fraser, Ltd. and the Grand Lodge.

YWCA officials say they receive the funds annually and will continue to support women and children who need housing.
In 2014, they helped 63 women and children with housing opportunities.

“This is to help women break the cycle of poverty and violence and help them on a pathway towards independence which we often see.
85% of the time last year women served in this program increased their education level while they were in our program,” said YWCA Cass Clay Executive Director Erin Prochnow.

Four organizations in Grand Forks got nearly $250,000 from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
