Riverfront Development In Fargo

With flood protection coming to Fargo in the future, city leaders are looking at a plan to develop the area along the Red River downtown.

The riverfront development is an idea that many city commissioners find exciting.

As flood protection for Fargo gets closer and closer, commissioners say space near the river will become prime real estate.

A plan presented at the city council meeting shows the possibility of various riverfront developments.
The plan highlights a chance for the city to build an iconic structure.

“The possibility of a downtown convention center, recent discussions about the possibility of a downtown performance hall, all of these come together for synergy of bringing together the possibilities of really having an enhanced riverfront development,” said presenter Richard Moorhead.

One of the commissioners points to the Sydney Opera House and says Fargo has the opportunity to make a building as iconic as theirs.

“What Richard brought up was, there was just possibilities, I mean what a fun thing to think of all the possibilities, in that it’s basically a blank slate down there and so it’s fun for all of us to think about so it’s very exciting,” said Fargo City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn.

This plan would give space for a performance center, hotels, parking, and new businesses to open up on the riverfront.
The plan also says that it may take many years to accomplish but it is worth it in the end.
