Longer Middle School Days In Fargo

Parents are chiming in about the proposed changes for the next school year to middle schools in Fargo.

The changes would give students the opportunity to get some extra help and have the option to do more activities.

Original plans included making middle schools in Fargo last a period longer for clubs, activities and individual help.

School officials heard the concerns of many parents and students and now they are considering only extending the school day by eight minutes.
They are still hosting meetings on the issue but parents say they like this plan better.

“So a bunch of us did get together and we voiced our concerns and they did listen and they’ve got it changed now so that the day isn’t running so long so now I’m pretty much OK with most of it,” said Shelly Nitschke of Fargo.

“I would say as you look at the number of parents who are here and the feedback that we are receiving I think that this is a much more favorable plan,” said Teaching & Learning Associate Superintendent Robert Grosz.

School officials are still finalizing the changes.
Carl Ben Eielson and Discovery Middle Schools would begin classes at 8:40 a.m. and Ben Franklin Middle School would start classes at 8:50 a.m. in the fall.
