Speeding Bill Fails in North Dakota

Legislation to put more “bite” into North Dakota’s speeding fines has once again failed in the House.

Representative Ben Hanson of West Fargo said “this is a dear old friend of this body we race to vote on every session.”

He said neighboring states all have higher fines and this legislation wouldn’t even bring North Dakota up to those levels.

The bill would have replaced the current system of different fines for different highways, with a flat $3 penalty for every mile over the speed limit.
