After signing the lease to allow Grand Sky on the Grand Forks Air Force base, construction will begin this spring for this Unmanned Arial Systems airport.

North Dakota Senator John Hoeven said, “They’re actually going to use the runway where we have manned and unmanned commercial and military aircraft taking off.

They don’t do that anywhere else they don’t do that anywhere else.”

This 1.2 million square foot park on the base will allow government and commercial clients to test, research and develop drones. With the opening of Grand Sky, how much impact will it really make on the community?

North Dakota Representative Kevin Cramer said, “It’s not only the attraction of other giant corporations, but you combined that with innovative school and you combine that with a culture of entrepreneurship and this becomes the go to place.”

Grand Sky will offer research and development opportunities with UND and other regional colleges. It is expected to create up to 3,000 jobs.

President of Grand Sky Development Tom Swoyer said, “We don’t know what the future holds but what we do know the future will be here on grand sky on the grand forks Air Force base.”

The aerospace park should open sometime in 2016.

The commercialization of drones is expected to exceed $11 billion per year by 2025.
