Minneapolis Police Officer Shot

43-Year-Old Suspect In Custody

A Minneapolis police officer is in the hospital after investigators say he was shot simply for doing his job. Police say the shooting happened Sunday morning as the officer stood outside his squad car.

Investigators say the officer had responded to a burglary call. Police say the suspected burglar, 43-year-old Andrew Neal, shot the officer in the shoulder and tried to get away.

Eventually police arrested him. Investigators say the police officer was targeted.

“It didn’t seem at all to us that related to the information we have at this time that there would be any reason to shoot this officer other than him being targeted for doing his job,” says Matt Clark, Assistant Chief of Minneapolis Police.

Neal is under arrest for domestic aggravated assault, probable cause burglary, and a probation violation.
