Mall of America Threats Worry Area

After hearing about threats made to the Mall of America from a group claiming to be linked to Al–Qaida, many in the valley are concerned.
“Kind of Scary, you know,” said Brennan Morris of Climax, Minnesota.
“It’s kind of scary to think about,” said Annie Odegard of Fargo.
“Very Scary,” said Sandy Reuther of Fargo.
It’s the thought that’s on the minds of many in the valley.
With the threats of a terrorist group so close to home, many are surprised and worried, including Annie Odegard.
“It’s kind of crazy, I don’t ever think of, since it’s in Minnesota I never think of it as like a national place that would be targeted,” said Odegard.
She shops regularly at West Acres and has been to the Mall of America several times.
“I think it’s really crazy that it’s so close to where we are,” said Odegard.
West Acres staff say there’s nothing to worry about.
“My immediate reaction was I reached out to our contacts at Homeland Security, FBI to discuss, you know what the report was and you know just kind of get a feel for you know should we be concerned about anything. At this point they report that there is no credible threat to us here at West Acres,” said West Acres Manager Chris Heaton.
Even after hearing about the terrorist news, many people in the area say they’re still not worried.
“It’s not really a threat; I mean I don’t think they’ll actually do anything about it,” said Morris.
“I don’t think it’s scary for this particular area, but yes it’s getting too close,” said Reuther.
West Acres officials say they will keep doing what they have been doing to keep everyone safe.
“Of course it’s something that we take very seriously always. Security is something that we continually plan for we continually work on, we continually are looking at our systems and operations and what we can do better,” said Heaton.
It’s the system that keeps shoppers like Odegard, safe.
West Acres officials say if you see anything suspicious, you can call their 24 hour number.
