Healthy Goodness In Every Cup Of Coffee

Coffee lovers rejoice at the new U.S. nutrition panel report stating that drinking three to five cups of coffee per day are linked to many health benefits.

The benefits include protection against type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s, cardiovascular disease among others.

No matter who you are or where you’re from, you have your own special way of garnishing that cup of joe.

Riaz Aziz says, “I put just a little bit of cream and a little bit of sugar into it just to take a little bit of the bitterness from it.”

James Simon says, “Usually I just go plain dark or medium coffee by itself but sometimes I put sugar or something in it.”

But like all good things, there are limitations.

Cardiovascular Medicine Samantha Kapphahn, DO says, “That’s what they’re talking about. Not the very nice whipped frothy, sweet, sugar delight that most of us would otherwise assume as part of our coffee.”

For coffee drinks who like their caramel syrup or heavy cream, the study only goes towards black coffee so you might have to resort to fat–free milk instead.

Kapphahn says, “If people have concerns about what they’re drinking in their coffee this is a good opportunity to exercise their education on what constitutes as a serving size. Is a little bit of sugar in your coffee a quarter of a cup of sugar or a simple sugar packet?’

Moxie Java Barista Paul Flessland says, “A small percentage have it black so those people are in luck so for the most of us who like a little cream in our coffee we’re out of luck there.”

You do have to watch your serving size. And other studies have found six or more cups a day actually reduce the benefits.
