Over 50 Beagle Puppies Rescued

Once muddy, barking, howling and some even injured, more than 50 beagles are now safe in the hands of rescue centers in the area.

Twenty-nine dogs went to Hightail Horse Ranch and Rescue in Hawley to be cleaned up and examined.

They bark and play now without a care in the world, but their lives have been changed forever.

Charlotte Tuhy says, “The dogs were living in a house and a small yard and very dirty conditions. There were more than 50 in a small house.”

One pup was reported dead, another lost part of its ear and others came in with scratches.

The Executive Director says, “No one knew about the dogs in a house in Shelly, Minnesota south of Crookston until family members went to police.

Tuhy adds, “I think a lot of times it gets ignored until it gets so bad that someone notices says something.”

The owner, allegedly a hoarder, voluntarily surrendered the dogs herself.

“When it gets out of control and you can’t take proper care of them you cross the line from being a responsible pet owner to hoarder.

After a few more health examinations, getting spayed and neutered, these puppies will be available for adoption.

“We’re hoping to get them into homes as soon as possible either through our organization or one that wants to help us.”

When the dogs are available for adoption, we’ll pass on the information.

This case is under investigation but the dog owner could face charges for lack of proper ventilation and sanitation.
