Film producer Larry Cappetto teaches Davies students what it means to be free.

He has interviewed World War II, Korean, Vietnam and Iraq veterans for his powerful documentaries.

“How many of you young people in this room today have somebody in your family serving in the military or has served in the military? Raise your hand – (Audience hands go up) – Look around. That’s almost everybody.”

In 1997, Larry Cappetto found himself watching the World War II film “Saving Private Ryan” giving him the inspiration he needed to travel the world interviewing veterans.

Cappetto says, “For the last 12–years of my life I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to serve my country.

Through the lens of that camera and to hear now over 1000 stories over spanning over 70–years of history.”

He is sharing a glimpse of his documentary series containing hundreds of untold war stories with 600 sophomore and junior Davies High School students.

The Film Producer says, “It’s unrehearsed. It’s a true story and these veterans I’ve always been fascinated with time. When I interview a veteran it’s like their eyes and my ears to this doorway to the past.”

Believing that history is best learned from those who were there, Cappetto brought a few local veterans with him.

Vietnam War Veteran Steve Perreault says, “We fought in World War II. We fought in Korea. We fought in Vietnam. We went to Iraq. There is evil in the world and we do have to fight it.”

The high school principal says this is an opportunity for students to learn about the deep sacrifice war heroes go through.

Davies High School Principal Troy Cody says, “A good story can help you understand the blood, sweat and the tears that a number of these individuals shred for our country and it is only through those words and a recollection from them.”

Larry Cappetto believes his films and speeches are his way of thanking veterans for their service.

He adds, “Veteran’s Day is every day for me. Not just November 11th.”

Remembering all those who have fought and currently fight for the red, white and blue.
