Order Up For NDSU Students

Things are sizzling at NDSU, literally.

Some students in the dietetics program are serving up “from scratch recipes” in the student run restaurant, the 800 Café.

This week’s theme is Greek at the 800 Café.
It’s a student run restaurant in the dietetics program.

Students like Kelly Kading rotate taking charge.

From every sizzle on the grill to even washing the dishes.

“We prep all the food, and we order the food and we’re serving for 40 people,” said Kading.

Kelly’s brother Chris came to support her since it’s her turn to run the show.

“It’s really good. Yeah, it’s awesome I knew it would be different, the Greek cuisine, but it’s really tasty,” said Chris Kading.

But he says it’s not his first time eating his sister’s food.

“Well I do that probably more than she likes me to but it’s really good, yeah I like it,” said Chris.

Students say the 800 Café is an experience like none other.

“This hands on experience is probably something that we’re going to carry with us and it’s going to be really useful in the future,” said Kelly.

Some of the recipes in the 800 Café are originals and many of the students working say that it’s great real world experience.

“It’s definitely nice because I’ve been serving since high school so it’s kind of nice to see like how you plan everything and seeing how everything goes,” said NDSU Student Shelby Hohloch.

The students say it isn’t always easy being in charge of so many things.

“It’s a little crazy right now because I’m the manager so this is new and then I have to put together my portfolio, but everything’s going really well and like I said my classmates are awesome,” said Kelly

It’s a chance for dietetics students like Kelly to get a glimpse into how their future might pan out.
