Students Embrace Native American Culture
A Fargo–West Fargo Indian Education Program celebrates Native American Youth Leadership Day.
35 American Indian students in grades six through eight were selected to part–take in the day.
Ricky White, who is Anishinabe, was the day’s featured speaker.
He gave presentations and did activities with the students incorporating leadership skills and giving them exposure to the Native American Culture.
One activity was the art of making dream catchers.
Feature Speaker Ricky White says, “When you think about leadership it’s an exposure to certain skills. It’s an exposure to traits of sorts that someone would need to have in order to lead themselves in the future.”
The shared stories, oral traditions and activities of the day related to the Seven Grandfather Teachings of the Anishinabe.
