Twins Fall to Tigers Opening Day

The Minnesota Twins opened their 2015 season the same way they’ve opened the previous seven….with a loss, this time to the Detroit Tigers.

Minnesota couldn’t get much going against Tigers’ starter David Price, who was lights out en route to 8 2/3 IP, allowing no runs and no walks while striking out five.

JD Martinez homered off of Phil Hughes in the bottom half of the second inning, which ended up being the winning run. Hughes went six innings, allowing four runs and eight hits.

The Twins had their greatest threat of the game in the top of the ninth inning. With two runners on and two outs, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus pulled Price in favor of Former Twins closer Joe Nathan. Nathan struck out former teammate Torii Hunter on an extremely questionable check swing call by home plate umpire Joe West, that ended the game.

The two teams play again Wednesday afternoon.
