Dining with Insects and Wine

A trending tasting event, is creeping and crawling its way into Fargo.
Dozens of people took part in wine and bug sampling for the Northern Plains Botanic Garden Society.
If you’re allergic to seafood, you may want to skip the insects. But for this group of fifty, they decided to take a bite out of nature.
You may cringe, scream or squash any insect you meet. But for this group, it’s a different story, they’re paring crickets, grasshoppers and even scorpions with wine.
But why?
“I’ve been very curious about this for a long time. I know there’s a town south of Minneapolis that has a bug eating event but that’s too far to drive so when I saw it in the paper that I could do this right here, I’m in.”
For the event organizer Maurice Degrugillier, he says this isn’t anything new, over 2 billion people are incorporating these creepy crawlers into their meals.
“Insects have the right balance of omega three and omega six fatty acids so, underdeveloped countries are going to get some fats in their protein so it would be a really thing for them and for us to eat something like this.”
Now these edible insects aren’t found outside, but produced in a sterile environment far from pesticides. So how do they taste?
“I’m not afraid of bugs, they don’t bother me if it were a mouse that’s a whole different ball game but no these are fine.”
