A non-profit organization in Grand Forks kicks off its fifth food packing event to feed kids around the world.

Among the many volunteers are some local elementary and middle school students.
KVRR’s Brittany Ford has the story.

Feed My Starving Children, a Grand Forks non-profit, are packing and shipping meals to hungry children in more than 70-countries around the world.

Event organizers send appeals every year to local churches to help cover the cost of the food.

They are currently sponsored by 35-churches in North Dakota and 14 in Minnesota.

“And it’s in this Grand Forks public works building where volunteers and kids from the elementary schools are packing four hundred thousand meals to feed hungry children around the world.”

“Army of people want to do this it’s awesome”

For the third year, area elementary and middle school kids are helping out.

“Very educational and hands on way to learn about starvation and to know that you have that you have the power to make a difference one person can do something to change the world.”

Katie Norden a 7th-grader at Valley Middle School enjoys helping others and showed me just what the packing and scooping is all about.

“Scooping some stuff in and scooping some stuff out today!”

“It’s reassuring that there are things that we can do at our age and it’s fun to help out more people than just people in our area.”

The packing event is celebrating its 5th year.

There are hopes in the future to raise the number of meals to 500-thousand to feed the hungry.
