The prosecution wrapped up its case against West Fargo teacher Aaron Knodel and now it’s the defense team’s turn.

Knodel is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student in 2009.

KVRR’s Brittany Ford was in court and has the story.

The third day of the trial brought a long list of witness testimony.

Prosecutors ended their case with the alleged victim’s best friend. She explained during the spring of 2009 the relationship between student and teacher didn’t seem right.

“Nothing sexual but when your best friend says behind in the classroom and when you leave to get a coffee for you two big red flag. That was inappropriate I thought.”

A criminal intelligence analyst was brought in that showed pie graphs and charts that 93-phone calls were made between January 2009 and March 9, 2009 between the alleged victim and the defendant.

One of those phone calls lasted around 240 minutes.

That’s four hours of talk time.

The defense brought many character witnesses to the stand, defending the accused.

One colleague of Knodel’s and witness for the defense even spoke on how he was threatened by investigators before the trial even started.

“He told me I would be charged in contempt and that he had thrown people in jail for a lot less.”

Teachers repeatedly testified that there is no privacy for sexual acts to occur in a classroom.

“I have had the door locked to hide and correct papers and have had someone walk in and say ‘Oh I didn’t see your light on I was going to make a call.”

The defense expects to wrap up their case tomorrow.
