First Sunday For New State Alcohol Law

Some restaurants and bars might be celebrating a new state law Sunday.

On Friday Governor Mark Dayton signed a law loosening Minnesota’s Sunday alcohol laws.

Restaurants can now sell alcohol with food starting at 8 a.m. on Sundays. Brewpubs and breweries can sell growlers of beer earlier as well.

But some cities have city ordinances setting a 10 a.m. start time so restaurants in those cities won’t be able to take advantage of the new law until city code is changed.

The House and the Senate both rejected a bill this year that would allow liquor stores to open on Sundays.
