The Metro Piles Up For Cleanup Week

Cleanup Week is officially underway around the metro and it’s hard to avoid.

There is trash everywhere.

It’s a chance for Fargo, Moorhead, Dilworth, West Fargo and Clay County to do some spring cleaning, while others see it as a street shopper’s paradise.

Escaping the heat of this past weekend, new home owner Taylor Ells of Fargo took his Monday morning off to bring his “junk” to the curb.

Taylor Ells says, “There’s always some things you don’t want to keep or kind of travel with for too long. Good way to get rid of.”

He’s already seen some of his stuff disappear from his curb by those street shopping.

Benny Schill is one of those people.

He fills his truck with metal items he can trade–in for cash.

Benny Schill says, “It’s interesting what you will find on the streets. You know – most people will look at it like ‘oh, it’s garbage.’ Pass it by.”

He met up with a friend along the way who just this weekend hauled in 15,000 pounds of stuff.

The Street Shopper says, “Freezers, fridges, big grills. Those are always fun.”

Solid Waste says they pick up most items you put on the street for Cleanup Week, but not electronics or hazardous waste.

Solid Waste Director Terry Ludlum says, “We don’t want those put on the curb. We’re not allowed to pick those up and so we ask that those get taken to our household hazardous waste facility.”

Need a new mattress…or couch? Then Cleanup Week is for you!

Schill says you never know what you’ll find.

Schill adds, “Like they always say, ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.’ I believe that.”

And sometimes the street shopper becomes the seller.

Cleanup Week in the metro continues through Friday following the garbage pickup schedule.

Make sure you have your garbage out by 7am.

Crews will throw away any container that is not a garbage can.
