Fargo honors fallen officers at the 20th Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Day Ceremony.

Law enforcement gather at Lindenwood Park to pay tribute to the lives lost during the call of duty.

The sound of the bell represents the 127 law enforcement officers who lost their lives doing a job that embodies protecting others.

Cass County Jail Volunteer Harvey Seidel says, “When they rang the bell for that number of officers, it struck me as amazing the officers who give their lives every day.”

Officers along with family and friends witness an honor guard’s 21 gun salute and the playing of taps.

Cass County Jail Volunteer Gerri Leach says, “There’s a whole circle of loved ones that were left behind and they also make a sacrifice for our safety.”

Those who worked alongside these fallen officers believe it’s not how they died but how they lived their lives.

Fargo Police Chief David Todd says, “They are often at a call or responding to a call and were trying to serve the public that we represent when a something tragic happened.”

Officers use today’s memorial service to reflect on their lives and those lost giving the ultimate sacrifice.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Richard Majerus says, “We’re just waiting for that day and we hope it never comes.”

Those in the crowd recognize the challenges these brave men and women faced on the job.

Seidel says, “We’re just waiting for that day and we hope it never comes.”

Leach says, “In the line of work that they are in to protect our community but they also want the best for everyone.”
