Area Women Talk Agriculture

Senators Heidi Heitkamp and Amy Klobuchar talk about the importance of women in agriculture.

They hosted USDA Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden.

A panel of female leaders in North Dakota as well as women leaders in agriculture gathered at NDSU for a roundtable discussion.

They talked about the challenges women in ag. face and the need for more women to take leadership roles in the industry.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden said, “Women have been involved in agriculture since the beginning of time. This nothing new but we’re really talking about how to value what they do and their contributions and making sure they know we recognize what they’re doing.”

Recent statistics show that women make up one-tenth of principal farm operators in North Dakota.
