Herdina Academy Host Construction Trade Course

Some area high school students are getting the chance to test–drive jobs in the commercial and construction field.

The Herdina Academy for construction trade offers a course every year through Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

Over a two week time period high school students 15 years or older learn the basic duties required in construction jobs.

The academy says it’s a good way for students to get some real–world experience before choosing a career.

“So I’ve had kids come in and actually change their mind. Wanted to be a carpenter they’ll become a plumber. They thought they were going to be a plumber then they’ll be an electrician. So they get a taste of it they get a chance to change their mind, and get a firsthand view of it,” said Coordinator at Herdina Academy David Kramer.

Students who successfully complete the academy earn three M State college credits, and the chance to receive up to $3,000 worth of scholarships.
